Alex Sax creates drawings, paintings and installations that express the beauty, strength and fragility of the natural world. Sax draws the flora and fauna of her surroundings using India ink and colored pencils. The images emerge from layers of marks, as a result the drawings have a rich, tactile quality. The drawings are timeless. Sax’s mixed media installations include whimsical cast paper and bronze animal sculptures, artist books, and architectural fragments. These fictional history projects are based on real and imagined people and places, and Sax presents the animals as rare and endangered. In all of Sax’s art, she express the beauty and wonder of the everyday things we take for granted.
